Chunky Ribbed Knit Beanie
This cozy beanie features a chunky ribbed pattern, perfect for keeping warm in style. The knitted texture adds a touch of elegance and comfort, making it an essential winter accessory. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced knitter, this pattern is straightforward and enjoyable to create.
Materials Needed
- Yarn: Super bulky yarn in peach
- Needles: US 15 (10mm) circular needles
- Gauge: 8 stitches and 12 rows = 4 inches in rib pattern
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Cast On: Start by using the long-tail cast-on method to cast on 40 stitches onto your circular needles. Make sure to leave a long enough tail for your cast-on to avoid running out of yarn.
- Join in the Round: Carefully join your stitches in the round. Ensure that your stitches are not twisted. To do this, lay your work flat and check that the stitches are all facing the same direction before joining.
- Ribbing: Begin working in a rib pattern of K2 (knit 2 stitches), P2 (purl 2 stitches). Continue this pattern for a total of 10 inches. This ribbing will create the stretchy texture of your beanie.
- Begin Decreasing: Once you have reached 10 inches, it’s time to start decreasing. For the first decrease round, work the following: *K2tog (knit 2 together), P2tog (purl 2 together)* around the entire round. This will reduce your stitch count to 20 stitches.
- Next Decrease Round: For the following round, simply knit 2 together around: *K2tog* until you have 10 stitches left on your needles.
- Finish the Beanie: Cut your yarn, leaving a long tail (about 12 inches). Thread this tail through the remaining 10 stitches on your needles. Pull tight to close the top of the beanie.
- Weave in Ends: Finally, use a tapestry needle to weave in any loose ends from your cast-on and the tail you used to close the beanie. Make sure to secure the yarn well so that it doesn’t unravel.
