Crochet Vibrant Textured Dahlia Flower Brooch
Skill Level: Beginner
Materials Needed:
- Worsted weight yarn in three colors: base color (e.g., coral), petal color (e.g., pink), and center color (e.g., yellow)
- Crochet hook (size H/5.0 mm)
- Scissors
- Tapestry needle
- Safety pin or brooch clasp (for fastening)
Pattern Instructions:
Making the Flower Base:
- With the base color yarn, create a magic ring.
- Round 1: Chain 2, and work 10 double crochets (dc) into the ring. Pull the ring tight and join with a slip stitch (sl st) to the top of the first dc. (10 dc)
- Round 2: Chain 2, then work 2 dc in each stitch around. Join. (20 dc)
- Round 3: Chain 2, *1 dc in next stitch, 2 dc in following stitch; repeat from * around. Join. (30 dc)
Creating the Petals:
- Switch to the petal color yarn.
- Round 4: Chain 3, work 1 dc in the same stitch, *skip one stitch, work 2 dc in next stitch; repeat from * around. Join. (15 petals)
- Round 5: Chain 1, work a petal in the back loops only by doing 1 half double crochet (hdc), 2 dc, and 1 hdc in the same stitch for each petal. Join. (15 textured petals)
Creating the Center:
- With the center color yarn, make a magic ring.
- Round 1: Chain 1, work 8 sc in the ring. Pull it tight and join. (8 sc)
- Round 2: Work 1 sc in each stitch around. Join. (8 sc)
Assembly:
- Attach the center to the middle of the flower base using a tapestry needle.
- Weave in any loose ends with the tapestry needle.
- Attach a safety pin or brooch clasp on the back to wear your dahlia brooch!
Finishing Touches:
Feel free to block your flower for added definition and adjust the number of rounds for size preference. Enjoy your new flower brooch!
