- Round 1: *K6, k2tog; repeat from * around.
- Round 2: Knit.
- Round 3: *K5, k2tog; repeat from * around.
- Round 4: Knit.
- Round 5: *K4, k2tog; repeat from * around.

Cowl
- CO 88 stitches using the long tail cast on method.
- Join to work in the round, placing a marker for the beginning of the round.
- Work in K2, P2 ribbing for 4 inches for a snug fit.
- Begin the cowl body:
- Work in the same cable pattern as the beanie, knitting until the cowl measures 14 inches in length.
- Finish by working K2, P2 ribbing for another 2 inches.
- BO loosely to avoid tightness at the edge. Weave in all ends using a tapestry needle.
