Whether you’re lounging at home or heading out for a day of fun, these crochet shorts will keep you looking fabulous!
Materials Needed
- Yarn: DK weight cotton yarn
- Hook: 4.0 mm crochet hook
- Gauge: 16 stitches and 20 rows = 4 inches in lace pattern
Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Waistband
- Start by making a foundation chain that fits your waist comfortably. Make sure it’s not too tight, as you want the waistband to be comfortable.
- Join the last chain to the first chain with a slip stitch to form a ring. Be careful not to twist the chain.
- Work in a ribbing pattern: *Front post double crochet (Fpdc), back post double crochet (bpdc)* around the ring. Repeat this pattern for a total of 10 rows. This will create a stretchy and textured waistband.
2. Body of the Shorts
- Transition to the lace pattern. For Round 1, chain 3 (this counts as your first double crochet), then work the following sequence: *chain 2, skip 2 stitches, double crochet in the next stitch*. Repeat this sequence around the entire waistband. Join the round with a slip stitch.
- For Round 2, chain 3, then work the following: *double crochet in the chain-2 space, chain 2, double crochet in the next double crochet*. Repeat this around the entire round. Join with a slip stitch.
- Continue repeating Round 2 until your shorts reach your desired length. Make sure to try them on periodically to check the fit!
3. Leg Openings
- Once you have reached the desired length for the body of the shorts, divide your work into two equal parts for the leg openings.
- Join your yarn at the point where you want to start the first leg opening. Work in the lace pattern in the round for each leg for a total of 5 more rounds.
- Make sure to keep the tension consistent as you work around each leg opening.
4. Finishing
- Once you have completed the rounds for the leg openings, fasten off your yarn securely.
- Weave in any loose ends using a yarn needle to ensure a clean finish.
Congratulations! You have now completed your chic crochet lace shorts. These delightful shorts are perfect for summer wear, and you can customize them with different colors of yarn to match your style. Enjoy your new handmade creation!
