Chunky Lace Knit Sweater Pattern

Materials

• Yarn: 900-1200 yards of worsted weight yarn in a speckled pastel color.
• Needles: Size US 9 (5.5 mm) knitting needles.
• Tapestry needle for weaving in ends.
• Stitch markers.
• Measuring tape.

Gauge

16 stitches and 24 rows = 4 inches (10 cm) in lace pattern.

Abbreviations

• CO - Cast On
• k - Knit
• p - Purl
• yo - Yarn Over
• k2tog - Knit 2 Together
• ssk - Slip, Slip, Knit
• BO - Bind Off

Instructions

Back

1. CO 80 sts.
2. Work in k1, p1 ribbing for 2 inches.
3. Switch to lace pattern:
   • Row 1 (RS): k2, *yo, k2tog, k2; repeat from * to last 2 sts, k2.
   • Row 2 (WS): purl.
   • Row 3: k2, *k2tog, yo, k2; repeat from * to last 2 sts, k2.
   • Row 4: purl.
4. Repeat these 4 rows until the piece measures 24 inches from the CO edge.
5. BO all sts.

Front

1. Repeat instructions for Back until piece measures 18 inches from CO edge.
2. Neck shaping:
   • Next row (RS): Work in pattern for 30 sts, attach second ball of yarn and BO middle 20 sts, work to end.
   • Working both sides at the same time, BO 2 sts at each neck edge 3 times.
   • Continue in pattern until front matches back in length.
   • BO remaining sts.

Sleeves

1. CO 40 sts.
2. Work in k1, p1 ribbing for 2 inches.
3. Continue in lace pattern, increasing 1 st at each end every 8th row until there are 60 sts.
4. Work even until sleeve measures 18 inches from CO edge.
5. BO all sts.

Finishing

1. Block pieces to measurements.
2. Seam shoulders using mattress stitch.
3. Attach sleeves to body.
4. Sew side seams and sleeve seams.
5. Weave in all ends.
