Cozy Ribbed Knitted Socks
Welcome to your new favorite knitting project! These delightful knitted socks feature a textured ribbed pattern that provides both warmth and style. Perfect for keeping your feet cozy during chilly evenings, this pattern is designed with beginners in mind. Let’s get started on crafting your very own pair of Cozy Ribbed Knitted Socks!
Materials Needed
- Yarn: Worsted weight yarn (approx. 200 yards)
- Needles: US size 8 (5.0 mm) knitting needles
- Gauge: 4 stitches per inch in ribbing
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Cast On: Begin by casting on 48 stitches onto your knitting needle. Make sure your stitches are not too tight, as this will affect the elasticity of your ribbing.
- Ribbing: Work in a K2, P2 ribbing pattern for 10 rows. This means you will knit 2 stitches, then purl 2 stitches, repeating this sequence across the row. Remember to keep your tension consistent for an even look.
- Stockinette Stitch: After completing the ribbing, continue in stockinette stitch (knit every row) until the sock measures 6 inches from the cast-on edge. This will form the body of the sock.
- Heel Flap: Begin the heel flap by working 24 stitches in K1, P1 ribbing for 10 rows. This will create a sturdy and textured heel.
- Turn the Heel: To turn the heel, knit 12 stitches, then perform a K2tog (knit two together) and turn your work. This creates a short row that will give your sock a nice shape.
- Purling the Heel: Purl 5 stitches, then perform a P2tog (purl two together) and turn your work again. This will continue shaping the heel.
- Repeat Heel Shaping: Continue repeating the previous two steps until all stitches are worked. You should have a total of 12 stitches remaining on your needle.
- Pick Up Stitches: With the heel flap complete, pick up 12 stitches along the side of the heel flap. This will create the connection between the heel and the foot of the sock.
- Knit the Foot: Now, knit across the top of the foot. This will connect the heel to the rest of the sock.
- Decrease for the Toe: To shape the toe, K2tog every 6th stitch until you have 12 stitches remaining. This will taper the sock nicely.
- Graft the Toe: Finally, use the Kitchener stitch to graft the toe closed. This technique will create a seamless finish, making your socks comfortable to wear.
Congratulations! You have just completed your very own pair of Cozy Ribbed Knitted Socks. Enjoy the warmth and comfort they bring to your chilly evenings!
