Cozy Ribbed Toe-Up Crochet Socks

Create these snug and stylish toe-up socks using crochet techniques for a perfect fit. The ribbed texture adds both comfort and elegance to your handmade footwear. Whether you're a beginner or looking to refine your skills, this pattern will guide you through every step of the process.

Materials Needed

  • Yarn: Bulky weight yarn in cream
  • Hook: Size J/10 (6 mm) crochet hook
  • Gauge: 12 stitches and 14 rows = 4 inches in ribbed pattern

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Start with a Magic Ring

Begin your project by creating a magic ring. This will be the foundation for your toe-up socks.

2. Round 1

Inside the magic ring, make 6 single crochets (sc). Pull the tail of the yarn to close the ring tightly.

3. Round 2

In this round, make 2 single crochets in each stitch around. You will have a total of 12 stitches at the end of this round.

4. Round 3

For this round, you will start increasing your stitches. Work as follows: *1 single crochet in the next stitch, then 2 single crochets in the next stitch*. Repeat this pattern around. You should have 18 stitches at the end of this round.

5. Continue Increasing

Keep increasing in this manner until you reach a total of 36 stitches. To do this, continue the pattern of alternating between 1 sc and 2 sc in the next stitch.

6. Work Even in Single Crochet

Once you have 36 stitches, work even in single crochet for 2 inches. This means you will simply make 1 sc in each stitch around without any increases.

7. Begin Ribbing

Now it's time to add the ribbed texture. Start the ribbing pattern by working as follows: *Front post double crochet (fpdc) around the next stitch, then back post double crochet (bpdc) around the next stitch*. Repeat this pattern around for a total of 8 inches or until you reach your desired length.

8. Create the Heel

To form the heel, you will work short rows over half of the stitches. This means you will only work on 18 stitches (half of 36). Turn your work after making a few stitches, and continue to work back and forth until the heel is shaped to your liking.

9. Resume Working in the Round

After completing the heel, resume working in the round while maintaining the ribbing pattern. Continue until the sock measures 2 inches less than your desired total length.

10. Finish with 1x1 Ribbing

To complete the top of the sock, switch to a 1x1 ribbing pattern (1 front post double crochet followed by 1 back post double crochet) for 1 inch.

11. Fasten Off

Once you have completed the ribbing, fasten off your yarn and weave in any loose ends using a yarn needle.

Congratulations! You have now created your very own cozy ribbed toe-up crochet socks. Enjoy wearing them or gifting them to someone special!
