Materials Needed:

  • Medium worsted weight cotton yarn in four colors
  • H (5.0 mm) crochet hook
  • Scissors
  • Tapestry needle

Abbreviations:

  • ch = chain
  • sc = single crochet
  • dc = double crochet
  • puff = puff stitch (yarn over, insert hook, yarn over, pull through, yarn over, pull through 2 loops) twice, yarn over, pull through all loops)
  • sl st = slip stitch

Gauge:

Gauge is not critical for this project, but it’s recommended to aim for a square measuring approximately 8" x 8".

Instructions:

Base Square:

  1. Start with a magic ring.
  2. Round 1: Ch 3 (counts as first dc), 11 dc in the ring, pull tight and sl st to the top of the ch 3 to join (12 dc).
  3. Round 2: Ch 3, dc in the same st, 2 dc in each st around, sl st to join (24 dc).
  4. Round 3: Ch 1, sc in the same st, *ch 2, skip 2, sc in the next* repeat around, sl st to join (12 ch-2 spaces).
  5. Round 4: Sl st into the first ch-2 space, ch 3, puff in the same space, *ch 2, puff in the next ch-2 space* repeat around, join with sl st (12 puff stitches).
  6. Round 5: Ch 1, sc in each puff st and ch-2 space around, join with sl st.
  7. Fasten off and weave in ends.

Flower Motif:

  1. With a new color, start with a magic ring.
  2. Round 1: Ch 1, 12 sc in the ring, pull tight and sl st to join (12 sc).
  3. Round 2: Ch 2, *puff in next st, ch 2* repeat around, sl st in first puff (6 puffs).
  4. Fasten off, leave a long tail for sewing.

Assembly:

  1. Center the flower motif on the base square, sewing it down with the tail from the flower.
  2. Add more flowers in varying colors as desired for a clustered effect.
  3. Weave in all ends securely.

Finishing Touches:

For added texture, consider adding a simple border of sc around the dishcloth in a contrasting color. This project is ideal for gifting or keeping your kitchen cheerful!
