Materials:

• Medium weight yarn (approximately 150 yards total) in three colors (A, B, C)
• 5.0 mm (H) crochet hook
• Yarn needle
• Scissors

Gauge:

12 dc x 8 rows = 4 inches in double crochet.

Size:

0-3 months, 3-6 months, 6-12 months (instructions will be noted)

Pattern Instructions:

Bonnet Body

1. With Color A, ch 60 (72, 84) for the foundation chain.
2. Row 1: Dc in the 4th ch from the hook, dc in each ch across. Turn. (58, 70, 82 dc)
3. Row 2: Ch 2, fpdc in the first st, *bpdc in the next st, fpdc in the next st; repeat from * across. Turn.
4. Repeat Row 2 until the piece measures 5 (6, 7) inches from the foundation chain, ending with a bpdc row.
5. Change to Color B. Dc in each st for 4 rows.
6. Change to Color C. Repeat the cable stitch pattern from Row 2 for 4 rows.
7. Finish with Color A. Dc in each st for 2 rows.
8. Turn the piece inside out and seams together to form the bonnet shape. Slip stitch the edges together.

Ear Flaps

1. From the bottom front edge of the bonnet, ch 5, sc in the 2nd ch from the hook and in each ch across (4 sc).
2. Row 1: Ch 1, turn. Sc in each st across for 3 rows.
3. Fasten off and repeat on the other side.

Braided Ties

1. Cut 6 strands of Color A, B, and C, each 24 inches long.
2. Group the strands into 3 groups of 2 and braid together securely.
3. Attach one braided tie to each ear flap by knotting them in place.

Finishing Touches

1. Make sure all ends are woven in securely.
2. Weave in any loose yarn from changing colors.
3. Block your bonnet lightly to shape it as desired.
