Yellow Textured Dishcloth

Materials:

  • Worsted weight cotton yarn (approximately 100g) in bright yellow
  • Size 8 (5mm) knitting needles
  • Scissors
  • Tapestry needle for weaving in ends

Gauge:

20 stitches and 24 rows = 4 inches (10 cm) in garter stitch.

Abbreviations:

  • k = knit
  • p = purl
  • st(s) = stitch(es)
  • CO = cast on
  • BO = bind off

Instructions:

Step 1: Casting On

With the yellow yarn, CO 40 stitches onto your knitting needle. Make sure the cast-on edge is not too tight; it should be able to stretch slightly.

Step 2: Start Knitting

Begin working in garter stitch (knit every row):

  • Row 1: k across the row.
  • Row 2: k across the row.

Repeat Row 1 and Row 2 until you reach a total of about 40 rows, or until the piece measures approximately 10 inches (25 cm) from the cast-on edge.

Step 3: Binding Off

Once you have reached your desired length, it's time to BO:

  • Row 1: k 2 stitches, then lift the first stitch over the second stitch and off the needle. You now have 1 stitch on your right needle.
  • Continue this process, knitting 1 stitch and lifting the previous stitch over until you have only 1 stitch remaining on your needle.
  • Cut the yarn leaving a 6-inch tail, pull the remaining stitch through the loop to secure.

Step 4: Finishing

Use the tapestry needle to weave in any loose ends neatly into the dishcloth.

Final Touch: Block the Dishcloth

Soak the dishcloth in cool water for a few minutes, gently squeezing out any excess water. Lay it flat to dry, shaping it to the desired dimensions. This helps set the stitches.

Enjoy!

Your bright yellow textured dishcloth is now ready to use or gift! Happy knitting!
