Instructions
- Cast On: Cast on 80 stitches using the long tail method.
- Ribbing: Row 1: *k2, p2*; repeat from * to end. Row 2: Repeat Row 1. Repeat for a total of 4 rows for a ribbed hem.
- Body: Row 5: Change to Stockinette Stitch (k every row) and knit until the piece measures 15 inches from the cast-on edge.
- Cable Design: Begin working in cable stitch pattern as follows: Row 1: *k4, p4*; repeat from * to end. Row 2: *k4, p4*; repeat from * to end. Row 3: k2, cable 4 stitches (crossing the first two stitches over the next two), then p4; repeat from * to end.
- Repeat the cable design for 10 inches, then switch back to Stockinette Stitch for another 5 inches, until the total length measures 30 inches.
- Divide for Sleeves: Place the next 20 stitches on hold for the sleeve, then cast on 10 stitches for the underarm. Continue knitting the body until it measures 22 inches from the cast on for the armhole.
- Sleeves: For each sleeve, cast on 30 stitches and work in Stockinette Stitch for 15 inches. Finish the last 5 rows with ribbing (k2, p2).
- Seaming: Once both the body and sleeves are complete, sew the sleeves onto the body using a mattress stitch. Weave in all ends.
- Neckline: Pick up stitches around the neckline and knit in ribbing for about 2 inches. Bind off in pattern.
- Finishing Touches: Block your sweater gently to shape it and let it dry flat.
