Materials Needed
- Worsted weight yarn in blue, green, and cream
- H/8 (5.0 mm) crochet hook
- Tapestry needle
- Scissors
Abbreviations
- ch = chain
- sl st = slip stitch
- sc = single crochet
- dc = double crochet
- tr = treble crochet
Instructions
Granny Square Pattern
- Start with a magic ring, ch 3 (counts as first dc), work 11 more dc into ring. Join with sl st to first dc. (12 dc)
- Ch 3, dc in same st, ch 1, *2 dc in next st, ch 1*; repeat from * to * around. Join with sl st. (24 dc)
- Ch 4 (counts as 1 tr and ch 1), tr in same st, ch 1, *tr, ch 1, tr in next ch-1 space, ch 1*; repeat from * to * around. Join with sl st. (24 tr clusters)
- Switch colors following your desired pattern sequence (blue, green, cream), and repeat steps 2 and 3 until the square is approximately 5 inches.
Assembly
Make enough granny squares in alternating color patterns to reach your desired blanket size (8 squares across and 12 squares down). Join squares using your preferred method (whip stitch or slip stitch in back loops).
Border
- With cream, sc around the entire blanket, placing 3 sc in each corner. Join with sl st.
- Switch to green, and work *sc, skip 1, 5 dc in next st, skip 1* around, creating a scalloped edge. Join with sl st and fasten off.
