Crochet Elegant Textured Hooded Poncho Free Pattern

Materials Needed

  • Yarn: DK weight yarn in beige or preferred color
  • Crochet hook: Size G/4.0mm
  • Darning needle for weaving in ends
  • Scissors
  • Stitch markers

Gauge

4 shells = 4 inches (10 cm) using shell stitch pattern

Abbreviations

  • ch = chain
  • sc = single crochet
  • dc = double crochet
  • sl st = slip stitch
  • st = stitch
  • sk = skip
  • rep = repeat
  • shell = [(2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in the same stitch]

Instructions

Body

  1. Foundation: Ch 200. Join with sl st to form a ring, being careful not to twist the chain.
  2. Round 1: Ch 3 (counts as dc here and throughout), dc in each ch around. Join to the top of the ch-3 with sl st.
  3. Round 2: Ch 3, dc in next st, *ch 2, sk 2 sts, shell in next st, ch 2, sk 2 sts, dc in next 2 sts; rep from * around. Join to top of ch-3 with sl st.
  4. Round 3: Ch 3, dc in next st, *ch 2, shell in ch-2 sp of next shell, ch 2, dc in next 2 dc; rep from * around. Join to top of ch-3 with sl st.
  5. Rounds 4-30: Rep Round 3.

Hood

  1. Foundation: Ch 100. Join with sl st to form a ring.
  2. Round 1: Ch 3, dc in each ch around. Join with sl st to top of ch-3.
  3. Rounds 2-20: Ch 3, dc in each st around. Join with sl st to top of ch-3.
  4. Finishing: Fold hood flat and sew top two edges together to form the top of the hood.

Finishing Touches

  1. Drawstring: Ch 150. Weave through the top row of the poncho body.
  2. Attach hood to the body by sewing the lower edge of the hood evenly around the neck opening.
  3. Weave in all ends with a darning needle.
  4. Block your poncho if necessary to relax and even out the stitches.
