Instructions

Base

1. Ch 41 (or any odd number for your desired width).
2. Row 1: Sc in the second ch from hook and in each ch across. Turn. (40 sts)
3. Row 2: Ch 1, sc in the first st, *sc in the back loop only of next st, sc in the front loop only of next st; repeat from * across to last st, sc in both loops of last st. Turn.
4. Row 3: Ch 1, sc in the first st, *sc in the front loop only of next st, sc in the back loop only of next st; repeat from * across to last st, sc in both loops of last st. Turn.
5. Repeat Rows 2 and 3 until the piece measures approximately 14 inches long or your desired length.

Border

1. Round 1: Ch 1, sc evenly around all four sides of the placemat, working 3 sc in each corner. Join with a sl st to the first sc.
2. Round 2: Ch 1, sc in each st around, working 3 sc in each corner. Join with a sl st to the first sc.
3. Fasten off and weave in ends using the tapestry needle.
