Crochet Festive Christmas Tree Granny Square Free Pattern

Materials Needed:

• Medium weight yarn in cream, green, red, brown, and gold
• 4.0 mm (G-6) crochet hook
• Scissors
• Tapestry needle

Abbreviations:

• ch – chain
• sc – single crochet
• dc – double crochet
• sl st – slip stitch
• tr – treble crochet
• st – stitch

Instructions:

Granny Square Background (Cream):

1. Start with a magic ring, ch 3 (counts as dc), 11 dc into ring, sl st to top of ch-3 to join. (12 dc)
2. Round 2: Ch 3, dc in same st, 2 dc in each st around, sl st to join. (24 dc)
3. Round 3: Ch 3, *dc in next st, 2 dc in next st* around, sl st to join. (36 dc)
4. Rounds 4-6: Continue in dc increasing evenly every round to form a square with 4 dc corner increases on each corner of the square.
5. Round 7: Ch 3, dc in each st and 2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc in each corner, sl st to join.

Christmas Tree (Green):

1. Base: In center of square, join green yarn, ch 6, sl st to form a ring.
2. Row 1: Ch 3, 5 dc in ring, turn. (6 dc)
3. Row 2: Ch 3, dc in each dc across, turn.
4. Row 3: Ch 3, 2 dc in same st, dc in next 2 dc, 2 dc in last st. (8 dc)
5. Continue increasing each row by 2 dc until the desired triangle shape is formed.

Tree Trunk (Brown):

1. Attach brown yarn to last row of tree, ch 3, dc in next 2 st, ch 1, turn.
2. Row 2: Ch 3, dc in each st across, fasten off.

Ornaments (Red and White):

1. With red yarn, make a small bobble by working 5 dc into one st, leaving the last loop of each on the hook, yarn over and pull through all loops.
2. Repeat with white yarn, place alternately on tree.

Star Topper (Gold):

1. Join gold yarn at top of tree, ch 4, sl st into same st, repeat for 5 points of star, fasten off.

Border (Green and Red):

1. Round 1: With green yarn, ch 2, hdc in each st and corner, sl st to join.
2. Round 2: Switch to red, repeat hdc around, fasten off.

Weave in all ends and block the square if necessary.
