Crochet Radiant Sunflower Garden Afghan Free Pattern

Materials Needed:

  • Yarn: Worsted weight in brown, yellow, green, and cream
  • Crochet Hook: Size H/8 (5 mm)
  • Tapestry needle
  • Scissors

Abbreviations:

  • ch: chain
  • sc: single crochet
  • dc: double crochet
  • sl st: slip stitch
  • sp: space

Instructions:

Large Center Sunflower:

  1. Round 1: With brown, make a magic ring, ch 2 (counts as dc), work 11 dc into ring, join with sl st to first dc. (12 sts)
  2. Round 2: Ch 2, dc in same st, 2 dc in each st around. Join. (24 sts)
  3. Round 3: Change to yellow. Ch 3, sl st in next dc, repeat around. Fasten off.

Leaves Around Center:

  1. With green, ch 10, sc in 2nd ch from hook, hdc in next, dc in next 2, tr in next 2, dc in next, hdc in next, sc in last. Fasten off.
  2. Make 12 leaves and attach around sunflower.

Small Sunflower Motifs:

  1. Repeat rounds 1-3 of large sunflower using brown and yellow.
  2. For the border, with cream, work in sc around each sunflower to form a square.

Joining:

  1. Arrange small sunflower squares around the large one to form strips.
  2. Sew strips together using a yarn needle and cream yarn.
  3. Once all strips are joined, add a border with green and yellow alternating rows of sc around the entire afghan.
  4. Finish with a scalloped edge: With yellow, *sc in next 3 sts, 5 dc in next st, repeat from * around, join with sl st. Fasten off.

Finishing:
