Knitted Cozy Textured V-Neck Cardigan with Button Closure Free Pattern
Introduction
Welcome to your next knitting adventure! In this blog post, we will guide you through creating a stylish and warm cardigan that is perfect for layering. This easy-to-follow pattern features a cozy textured stitch and a classic V-neck design, making it an ideal project for both beginners and seasoned knitters alike. Let’s get started on crafting your very own cozy cardigan!
Materials Needed
- Yarn: Bulky weight yarn
- Needles: US Size 10 (6 mm) knitting needles
- Gauge: 12 stitches and 16 rows = 4 inches in textured stitch
- Buttons: 5 buttons for closure
- Scissors: For cutting yarn
- Tapestry needle: For weaving in ends
Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Back
- Cast on 80 stitches using your bulky weight yarn.
- Work in textured stitch (k1, p1) for 6 rows. This creates the cozy texture of your cardigan.
- Continue working in textured stitch until the piece measures 24 inches from the cast-on edge.
- Once you reach the desired length, bind off all stitches to complete the back piece.
2. Front Left
- Cast on 40 stitches.
- Work in textured stitch for 6 rows.
- Continue in textured stitch until the piece measures 24 inches.
- To create the V-neck, decrease 1 stitch at the neck edge every other row until you have 20 stitches remaining.
- Bind off all stitches to finish the left front piece.
3. Front Right
- Repeat the instructions for the Front Left, but reverse the V-neck decrease. This means you will decrease 1 stitch at the opposite neck edge every other row until you have 20 stitches remaining.
- Bind off all stitches to complete the right front piece.
4. Sleeves
- Cast on 40 stitches for each sleeve.
- Work in textured stitch for 6 rows.
- Continue in textured stitch until the sleeve measures 18 inches.
- Bind off all stitches to finish the sleeves. You will need to make two sleeves.
5. Assembly
- Begin by sewing the shoulder seams of the back and front pieces together.
- Attach the sleeves to the armholes, ensuring they are aligned properly.
- Sew the side seams of the cardigan, joining the front and back pieces together.
6. Button Band
- Pick up and knit 1 stitch for every 2 rows along the front edges of the cardigan.
- Work in ribbing (k1, p1) for 2 inches to create the button band.
- Bind off all stitches to complete the button band.
7. Buttons
- Sew 5 buttons evenly spaced along the button band. Make sure they align with the buttonholes you will create.
8. Finishing
- Weave in all loose ends using a tapestry needle to give your cardigan a clean finish.
- Block the cardigan to measurements to ensure it has the right shape and size.
Congratulations! You have successfully knitted your very own cozy textured V-neck cardigan. Enjoy wearing your handmade creation or gifting it to someone special!
