Instructions:

Body:

1. Cast On: CO 70 stitches using the long tail cast on method.

2. Ribbing: Work in k2, p2 ribbing for the first 4 inches (approximately 20 rows).

3. Begin Body: After the ribbing, continue in ribbing pattern but switch to k1, p1 for the next 8 inches (approximately 40 rows).

4. Open Shoulders: To create the open shoulder style, you will now bind off some stitches. At the beginning of the next row, BO 20 stitches and continue to knit the remaining stitches. (You should have 50 stitches left after this step.)

5. Continue Knitting: Knit these 50 stitches for another 10 rows to create the body length. You should have approximately 18 inches total from the cast-on edge.

6. Shaping the Neckline: Now we will shape the neckline.
- Next row (RS): K28, BO 14 stitches, K28.
- Next row (WS): Purl to end of the row.

Sleeves:

7. Pick Up Stitches: Pick up 30 stitches around the armhole (where you bound off the 14 stitches) using a new skein of yarn.

8. Knit Sleeve: Work in k1, p1 ribbing for 4 inches to match the body. BO all stitches loosely.

9. Repeat: Repeat the above step for the second sleeve.

Finishing:

10. Weave in Ends: Use a tapestry needle to weave in all loose ends.

11. Block: Lightly block the sweater to help it maintain shape.

The finished sweater measures approximately 24 inches in length and fits a standard medium size.
