Striped Cowl Scarf Pattern

Materials Needed:

  • 4 skeins of worsted weight yarn in three colors (light brown, dark brown, cream).
  • Size 8 (5.0 mm) knitting needles.
  • Yarn needle for weaving in ends.
  • Scissors.

Gauge:

18 stitches and 24 rows = 4 inches in stockinette stitch.

Abbreviations:

  • CO: Cast On
  • K: Knit
  • P: Purl
  • St(s): Stitch(es)
  • BO: Bind Off

Instructions:

  1. Cast On: Start by casting on 60 stitches using the light brown yarn.
  2. Ribbing (Optional): To create a nice edge, you can work in a k2, p2 ribbing for the first 5 rows.
  3. Body of Scarf:
    • Row 1: K all stitches.
    • Row 2: P all stitches.
    • Repeat Rows 1 and 2 until you reach approximately 12 inches of fabric.
  4. Switch Colors: Change to the dark brown yarn.
    • Continue the same pattern (Rows 1 and 2) for another 12 inches.
  5. Last Color Change: Switch to the cream yarn.
    • Repeat the same pattern for another 12 inches to finish off the scarf.
  6. Bind Off: After the last section, bind off all stitches loosely.
  7. Finishing: Weave in all loose ends with a yarn needle. Block the scarf slightly if desired to even out the stitches.

Size:

The finished cowl scarf will be approximately 36 inches in circumference and 12 inches in width, making it snug and warm.

Care Instructions:

Hand wash in cold water and lay flat to dry.
