Striped Dishcloth Pattern
This striped dishcloth is an excellent project for beginners who want to practice their knitting skills. The design features alternating stripes of pink and blue cotton yarn, creating a fun and colorful item for your kitchen.
Materials:
- Medium weight cotton yarn in two colors: pink and blue (approximately 50g each)
- Size 8 (5mm) knitting needles
- Scissors
- Tapestry needle for weaving in ends
Gauge:
15 stitches and 20 rows = 4 inches in garter stitch.
Abbreviations:
- k - knit
- st - stitch
- CO - cast on
- BO - bind off
Instructions:
- Cast on 36 stitches using pink yarn. This will make the dishcloth approximately 9 inches wide.
- Row 1: Knit all stitches (this is called garter stitch). Turn your work.
- Row 2: Knit all stitches. Turn your work.
- Continue knitting every row with pink yarn for 10 rows total.
- Change to blue yarn: After completing 10 rows with pink, switch to blue yarn. To do this, simply drop the pink yarn and start knitting with the blue yarn.
- Continue knitting with blue yarn in garter stitch for 10 rows.
- After 10 rows of blue, switch back to pink and knit another 10 rows of pink.
- Repeat the color pattern (10 rows pink, 10 rows blue) until the dishcloth measures about 9 inches in length or until you have completed a total of 50 rows.
- Bind off: Once the desired length is achieved, bind off all stitches. To bind off, knit the first two stitches, then use the left needle to lift the first stitch over the second stitch, and drop it off the needle. Knit one more stitch and repeat until all stitches are bound off.
- Weave in ends: Using a tapestry needle, weave in the ends of both yarns securely into the back of your dishcloth.
Your striped dishcloth is now complete! Wash it before use to soften, and enjoy your new colorful accessory in the kitchen!
