Striped Waffle Stitch Sweater Pattern

Materials

• Yarn: Worsted weight yarn in two colors (Color A: Navy Blue, Color B: Grey)
• Needles: US Size 8 (5.0 mm) 24” circular needles, and 16” circular needles for the neckband
• Stitch markers
• Tapestry needle
• Scissors

Gauge

18 stitches x 24 rows = 4 inches in waffle stitch pattern

Abbreviations

• CO - Cast On
• Rnd - Round
• k - knit
• p - purl
• k2tog - knit 2 stitches together
• wyib - with yarn in back
• wyif - with yarn in front

Instructions

Body

1. CO 200 stitches in Color A with the larger circular needle. Join to work in the round, being careful not to twist, and place a marker to indicate the start of the round.
2. Work in k1, p1 ribbing for 2 inches.
3. Switch to the waffle stitch pattern:

Rnds 1 and 2: *k2, p2; repeat from * around.

Rnd 3: knit all stitches around.

Rnd 4: *p2, k2; repeat from * around.

Rnd 5: knit all stitches around.

Repeat Rnds 1-5 for waffle stitch pattern.

4. Continue in waffle stitch pattern for 12 inches, changing to Color B after every 6 inches to create the stripes.
5. Bind off.

Sleeves (Make 2)

1. CO 50 stitches in Color A with smaller circular needles. Join to work in the round.
2. Knit in k1, p1 ribbing for 2 inches.
3. Switch to larger needles and continue in waffle stitch pattern, alternating colors every 6 inches until the sleeve measures 18 inches.
4. On the last round, decrease 5 stitches evenly. Bind off.

Neckband

1. Pick up stitches along the neckline using smaller circular needles in Color A.
2. Work in k1, p1 ribbing for 1 inch.
3. Bind off loosely.

Finishing

• Sew the sleeves onto the body of the sweater using the mattress stitch.
• Weave in all ends using a tapestry needle.
• Block your sweater to measurements to ensure an even finish.
