Textured Knit Sweater Pattern

Materials

  • Yarn: DK weight yarn in brown, approximately 1000 yards
  • Needles: US size 6 (4mm) and US size 4 (3.5mm) circular needles
  • Stitch markers
  • Tapestry needle
  • Scissors

Gauge

22 sts and 28 rows = 4 inches in textured pattern stitch.

Abbreviations

  • CO - Cast On
  • K - Knit
  • P - Purl
  • PM - Place Marker
  • SM - Slip Marker
  • Sts - Stitches
  • Rep - Repeat

Instructions

Body

  1. CO 200 sts with US size 4 needles. Join to knit in the round, careful not to twist. PM for beginning of round.
  2. Ribbed Hem:
    • Round 1: *K1, P1*; rep from * to end of round.
    • Repeat Round 1 for 2 inches.
  3. Textured Body: Switch to US size 6 needles.
    • Round 1: *K2, P2*; rep from * to end of round.
    • Round 2-4: Repeat Round 1.
    • Round 5: K all sts.
    • Round 6: *P2, K2*; rep from * to end of round.
    • Round 7-9: Repeat Round 6.
    • Round 10: K all sts.
    • Repeat Rounds 1-10 until work measures 16 inches from cast-on edge.

Finishing

  1. Bind off loosely in pattern.
  2. Weave in all ends using the tapestry needle.
  3. Block to measurements if necessary.
