Materials Needed

  • Yarn: Worsted weight yarn in shades of orange, pink, and yellow
  • Hook: 5.0 mm crochet hook
  • Tapestry needle: For weaving in ends

Step-by-Step Instructions

Base

  1. Start with a magic ring. Work 6 single crochets (sc) into the ring. (You should have 6 stitches)
  2. Round 1: Increase in each stitch around. (12 stitches)
  3. Round 2: *Single crochet in the next stitch, increase in the next stitch* around. (18 stitches)
  4. Round 3: *Single crochet in the next 2 stitches, increase in the next stitch* around. (24 stitches)
  5. Continue increasing in this manner until you have a base diameter of 10 inches.

Body

  1. Round 1: Single crochet in each stitch around, working in back loops only to create a sharp edge. (You should have 72 stitches)
  2. Rounds 2-5: Single crochet in each stitch around.
  3. Round 6: *Single crochet in the next 3 stitches, bobble in the next stitch* around.
    • To make a bobble: Yarn over, insert hook in stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop. Repeat this 5 times, then yarn over and pull through all loops on the hook.
  4. Rounds 7-10: Single crochet in each stitch around.
  5. Round 11: *Single crochet in the next 3 stitches, bobble in the next stitch* around.
  6. Repeat Rounds 7-11 until the body measures 12 inches tall.

Handles

  1. Join yarn at one side of the bag. Chain (ch) 50, skip 20 stitches, and join with a slip stitch (sl st) to the opposite side.
  2. Repeat for the other handle on the opposite side.
  3. Round 1: Single crochet in each chain and stitch around the top edge of the bag.
  4. Rounds 2-3: Single crochet in each stitch around.
  5. Fasten off and weave in all ends using the tapestry needle.

Finishing

Block the bag to shape and let it dry completely. This will help enhance the texture and structure of your beautiful tote!
