Baby Lion Costume Set

This adorable Baby Lion Costume Set is made up of a lion mane hat and a matching diaper cover, perfect for that cute photoshoot or special occasion!

Materials

• Super Bulky Weight Yarn in Orange and Brown (2 skeins each)
• Size 10.5 (6.5mm) Crochet Hook
• Scissors
• Tapestry Needle
• Measuring Tape
• Pom-pom maker or fork for pom-poms (optional)

Gauge

8 stitches and 6 rows = 4 inches in double crochet.

• sc = single crochet
• dc = double crochet
• sl st = slip stitch

Instructions

Lion Mane Hat

1. Start with the brown yarn. Chain 5 (ch 5) and join with a slip stitch (sl st) to form a ring.
2. Round 1: Ch 2 (this counts as your first dc), then dc 11 into the ring. Join with a sl st to the top of the ch 2. You should have 12 stitches now.
3. Round 2: Ch 2, dc in the same stitch, then 2 dc in each of the next stitches around. Join with a sl st. (24 stitches)
4. Round 3: Ch 2, *dc in next stitch, 2 dc in next stitch; repeat from * around. Join with a sl st. (36 stitches)
5. Round 4-6: Ch 2, dc in each stitch around. Join with a sl st. (You will do this for 3 rounds.)
6. Round 7: Ch 2, *dc in next 11 stitches, dc2tog; repeat from * around. Join with a sl st. (You will have 33 stitches)
7. Round 8: Ch 2, *dc in next 10 stitches, dc2tog; repeat from * around. Join with a sl st. (You will have 30 stitches)
8. Switch to orange yarn. Ch 2, dc in each stitch around. Join with a sl st. (30 stitches)
9. Repeat the orange yarn round until hat measures about 6 inches from the beginning of the brown. Finish off and weave in ends.
10. Create the mane: Using yarn, cut strands about 6 inches long. Attach these strands around the base of the hat by folding in half and pulling through a stitch, creating a loop. Repeat until the entire base is filled with yarn strands.

Diaper Cover

1. Using orange yarn, ch 40. Join with a sl st to make a circle.
2. Round 1: Ch 2, then dc in each stitch around. Join with a sl st. (40 stitches)
3. Round 2: Ch 2, dc in the next 20 stitches, ch 20 (for the back), dc in the next 20 stitches. Join with a sl st.
   (You should have a gap for the back.)
4. Round 3: Ch 2, dc in each stitch for 3 rounds with the same count as before.
5. Fasten off, leaving long yarn to sew the gaps closed in the back.

Pompom Tail

1. Using brown yarn, create a pom-pom using a pom-pom maker, or wrap yarn around a fork and tie in the center. Cut the loops to form the pom-pom.
2. Attach the pom-pom to the back of the diaper cover using a tapestry needle, securing it tight.
