Cozy Coffee Cup Sleeve Pattern

This Cozy Coffee Cup Sleeve is a great beginner project that will keep your hands safe from hot drinks. It features a delightful textured stitch pattern that is not only functional but also visually appealing. This project is perfect for using up leftover yarn!

Materials

  • Bulky weight yarn (approx. 50 yards) - choose a soft grey or color of your choice
  • US size 10 (6mm) knitting needles
  • Tapestry needle for weaving in ends
  • Scissors
  • Tape measure (optional)

Gauge

Your gauge is not crucial for this project, but aim for roughly 10 stitches and 14 rows = 4 inches in stockinette stitch.

Abbreviations

  • CO - Cast On
  • KNIT - Knit
  • PURL - Purl
  • k2tog - Knit two together (decrease stitch)
  • st(s) - Stitch(es)
  • RS - Right Side
  • WS - Wrong Side

Instructions

  1. Cast On: CO 40 stitches using your chosen yarn and needles.
  2. Row 1: *K1, P1* across the row (this creates a ribbing effect).
  3. Row 2: *P1, K1* across the row. Repeat Rows 1 and 2 until the piece measures approximately 6 inches tall (or desired height).
  4. Create the Cable Pattern: On the next row (Row 5), knit 4, then place 2 stitches on a cable holder and hold to the back. Knit 2, then knit the 2 stitches from the cable holder. Continue knitting across the row.
  5. Continue pattern until the sleeve measures about 10 inches wide, just enough to wrap around a standard coffee cup.
  6. Decrease: Begin decreasing on the last two rows. Row 1: *K2, k2tog* across the row (you will have 30 stitches left). Row 2: *K1, k2tog* across the row (you will have 20 stitches left).
  7. Bind Off: Using a standard bind-off method, bind off all stitches. Cut the yarn, leaving a 6-inch tail.
  8. Finishing: Thread the tail through a tapestry needle and weave in all ends on the inside of the sleeve.
  9. Optional: You can add a button or embellishment to the sleeve for extra flair!

Your Cozy Coffee Cup Sleeve is now ready to use! Slide it onto your favorite mug and enjoy your drink in style.
