Materials Needed
- Worsted weight yarn in light blue and blonde
- 5.0 mm crochet hook
- Yarn needle
- Scissors
- Small pom-pom maker
- Optional: Snowflake appliqué
Abbreviations
- ch: chain
- sc: single crochet
- sl st: slip stitch
- st(s): stitch(es)
- rnd(s): round(s)
Instructions
Hat Base
- With light blue yarn, create a magic ring.
- Rnd 1: ch 1 (does not count as st here and throughout), 10 sc into ring. Join with sl st to the first sc. (10 sts)
- Rnd 2: ch 1, 2 sc in each st around. Join. (20 sts)
- Rnd 3: ch 1, *sc in next st, 2 sc in next st; repeat from * around. Join. (30 sts)
- Continue increasing in this manner, adding 10 pairs of increments each round until the diameter reaches about 7 inches.
- Work even rounds in sc until the hat measures about 7-8 inches tall from the center top.
Ear Flaps
- Row 1: Ch 1, sc in 10 sts, turn.
- Rows 2-6: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn.
- Fasten off and repeat on the opposite side of the hat.
Braids
- Cut 24 strands of blonde yarn about 30 inches long each.
- Divide into two groups of 12 strands.
- Fold each group in half and attach to the bottom of each ear flap with a lark's head knot.
- Braid each side and secure the ends with a piece of yarn wrapped around multiple times and tied off securely.
- Trim ends evenly to create tassels.
Pom-Pom
- Using light blue yarn, create a pom-pom with the small pom-pom maker.
- Sew securely to the top of the hat.
Snowflake Appliqué
- Use your preferred method to create or attach a snowflake appliqué.
