Anonymous July 20, 2026

Materials

  • Yarn: Worsted-weight cotton yarn (approx. 400-500 yards in a light cream color)
  • Hook: 5.5 mm (I/9) crochet hook
  • Scissors
  • Tapestry needle for weaving in ends
  • Measuring tape

Gauge

8 double crochets = 4 inches. Gauge is not critical for this project but check to ensure uniformity.

Abbreviations

  • ch = chain
  • dc = double crochet
  • sl st = slip stitch
  • inc = increase (2 stitches in the same stitch)
  • sk = skip

Instructions

Note: This sweater is worked from the bottom up and features an open stitch pattern for breathability.

Body

  1. Foundation Chain: Ch 70 (or enough for your desired width; measure your bust circumference and subtract 4 inches for ease).
  2. Row 1: Dc in the 4th ch from hook (this counts as your first dc and ch 2). *Ch 1, skip next ch, dc in next ch; repeat from * to the end. Turn.
  3. Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as first dc), dc in the next ch-1 space, ch 1, *dc in next ch-1 space, ch 1; repeat from * to end. Turn.
  4. Repeat Row 2 until the piece measures 16 inches from the foundation chain, or until desired length.
  5. For the armholes, skip the first 10 stitches at the beginning of the next two rows, then continue as before. This creates the opening for your arms.

Join the Front to the Back

  1. After completing the body, you should have a rectangle shape. Fold the rectangle in half.
  2. Using the slip stitch, join the shoulder seams, leaving a gap for the neck width of approximately 8 inches.

Sleeves

  1. For each sleeve, attach yarn at the armhole opening. Ch 3 (counts as first dc), dc in the same corner stitch.
  2. Continue working in rounds, dc in each dc and ch-1 space, making sure to increase by 2 stitches every 4 rows until the sleeve length measures 15 inches.

Finishing

  1. Once both sleeves are completed, fasten off and weave in all ends using tapestry needle.
  2. For a clean edge, you may add a round of slip stitches along the bottom hem and sleeves to finish it off.

Care Instructions

Hand wash in cold water and lay flat to dry to maintain the shape and stitch definition.
