Materials

• Yarn: Bulky weight yarn in rich brown color; approx. 1200-1600 yards depending on size.
• Needles: US size 10 (6 mm) circular needles, 32 inches long.
• Cable needle
• Stitch markers
• Tapestry needle
• Scissors

Gauge

12 sts and 16 rows = 4 inches in stockinette stitch

Abbreviations

• CO: Cast on
• BO: Bind off
• K: Knit
• P: Purl
• C8F: Cable 8 Front (slip 4 sts to cable needle, hold in front, knit 4, then knit 4 from cable needle)
• Rep: Repeat

Instructions

Body

1. CO 120 (130, 140) sts. Join in the round, being careful not to twist. Place marker to mark beginning of round.
2. Ribbing: K2, P2 around for 2 inches.
3. Begin Cable Chart:
   
   1. Row 1: *K8, P4; rep from * around.
   2. Row 2: *C8F, P4; rep from * around.
   3. Row 3: *K8, P4; rep from * around.
   4. Row 4: *C8F, P4; rep from * around.
   5. Repeat Rows 1-4 until body measures 20 (22, 24) inches from CO edge.
4. BO 6 sts at beginning of next two rounds for underarm. Continue working back and forth on circular needles or switch to straight needles if preferred.

Sleeves (make 2)

1. CO 40 (44, 48) sts. Join in the round.
2. Ribbing: K2, P2 for 2 inches.
3. Begin Cable Pattern, as done on body, and increase 1 st at each end every 6th row until there are 60 (64, 68) sts. Work until sleeve measures 18 (20, 22) inches from CO edge.
4. BO 6 sts at the beginning of next 2 rounds for underarm.

Joining

1. With WS facing, seam sleeves to body.
2. Continue in pattern across back, joining sleeves and front until yoke measures 7 (8, 9) inches from armpit.
3. Divide for neck, and finish with K2, P2 ribbing for 1 inch. BO loosely.

Finishing

Weave in all ends using tapestry needle. Block gently to measurements, lay flat to dry.
