Body (Worked Flat, Then Seamed)

With MC, cast on 60 (66) [72] stitches.

Row 1 (RS): Knit all stitches.

Row 2 (WS): Purl all stitches.

Repeat Rows 1 and 2 until the piece measures 4 (4.5) [5] inches from the cast-on edge, ending with a wrong-side row. This forms the main body of the diaper cover.

Shaping the Leg Openings

This is the most crucial step to create the leg holes. Work the next row as follows:

Next Row (RS): Knit 15 (17) [19] stitches, bind off the next 30 (32) [34] stitches, then knit the remaining 15 (17) [19] stitches. You will now have two separate sections of stitches on your needle, which will form the front and back of the leg openings.

You will now work each leg section separately.

Leg 1

Continue working on the first set of 15 (17) [19] stitches only. You can place the other set of stitches on a holder or leave them on the needle while you work.

Work in stockinette stitch (knit on RS, purl on WS) for 2 (2.5) [3] inches, ending with a wrong-side row.

Next Row (RS): K2tog across the row. You will now have 8 (9) [10] stitches remaining.

Next Row (WS): Purl all stitches.

Leg 2

Rejoin the MC yarn to the remaining stitches on your needle or holder.
