Materials

  • Red worsted weight yarn (approximately 100 grams)
  • 4.5 mm (US 7) crochet hook

Instructions

Size

This pattern is designed for a baby 0-6 months. If a larger size is desired, you can increase the number of foundation chains.

Step 1: Create the Foundation

1. Begin by making a slip knot and chaining 4. Join the chain with a slip stitch to form a ring.

Step 2: First Round

2. Ch 3 (counts as first dc), then work 11 dc into the ring. Join with a sl st to the top of the starting ch 3. (12 dc total)

Step 3: Second Round

3. Ch 3, then dc in the same st. *2 dc in the next st.* Repeat from * to * around. Join with sl st to the top of the ch 3. (24 dc total)

Step 4: Third Round

4. Ch 3, then dc in the next st. *1 dc in the next st; 2 dc in the next st.* Repeat from * to * around. Join with sl st to the top of the ch 3. (36 dc total)

Step 5: Round 4-9 (Body of the Hat)

5. Ch 3, then dc in each st around, joining with sl st at the end of each round. Repeat this for 6 rounds (for a total height of approximately 6 inches).

Step 6: Finishing

6. At the end of round 9, fasten off and leave a long tail for weaving in. Use the yarn needle to weave in the ends securely.

Step 7: Add Embellishments

7. If desired, sew small flower embellishments on the hat using a contrasting color of yarn or attach pre-made flowers for a cute accent.

Step 8: Final Touches
