Circular Crochet Coaster

Materials

• Yarn: Worsted weight cotton yarn in natural color
• Crochet Hook: Size G/4.0 mm
• Scissors
• Tapestry needle

Gauge

Exact gauge is not critical for this project, but each coaster should measure approximately 5 inches in diameter after blocking.

Abbreviations

• ch: chain
• sl st: slip stitch
• sc: single crochet
• dc: double crochet
• hdc: half-double crochet

Instructions

1. Start with a magic circle. Alternatively, you can ch 4 and join with a sl st to form a ring.
2. Round 1: Ch 1, work 10 sc into the ring. Join with a sl st to the first sc. (10 sc)
3. Round 2: Ch 2 (counts as first dc), dc in the same st, 2 dc in each sc around. Join with a sl st to the top of the ch 2. (20 dc)
4. Round 3: Ch 1, *(sc, hdc) in next dc, dc in next st, (hdc, sc) in next dc*. Repeat from * around. Join with a sl st to the first sc. (30 stitches)
5. Round 4: Ch 1, sc in same st, sc in each stitch around. Join with a sl st to the first sc. (30 sc)
6. Optional Fringe: Cut strands of yarn approximately 6 inches long. Attach a strand to each stitch around the outer edge of the coaster by folding the strand in half, inserting the loop into the stitch, and pulling the ends through the loop. Tighten the fringe and trim to desired length.

Finishing

Weave in all ends using a tapestry needle. Gently block the coaster to enhance shaping.
