Crochet Light and Airy Shell-Stitch Capelet Free Pattern
Supplies Needed:
- Worsted weight yarn - approximately 300 grams (3 skeins)
- Crochet hook size 5.5 mm (I-9)
- Scissors
- Tapestry needle for weaving in ends
- Measuring tape
Gauge:
15 double crochets and 8 rows = 4 inches in shell stitch pattern.
Finished Size:
Approximately 24 inches long and 40 inches wide when laid flat.
Instructions:
Body of Capelet:
- Chain 65.
- Row 1: In the 4th chain from hook, make 3 double crochets (this counts as one shell), skip 2 chains, *make a shell (3 double crochets) in the next chain, skip 2 chains; repeat from * across to the last 3 chains, in the last chain make 2 double crochets. Turn your work.
- Row 2: Chain 3, turn. In the first shell space, make 3 double crochets (this counts as your new shell), and in each shell space across, make a shell. Finish with 2 double crochets in the turning chain from the previous row. Turn your work.
- Repeat Row 2 until the piece measures 24 inches from the starting chain.
Scalloped Edging:
- Row 1: Chain 1, single crochet in the first stitch, *skip 2 stitches, make 5 double crochets in the next stitch (this creates a shell), skip 2 stitches, single crochet in the next; repeat from * across to the end of the row, finishing with a single crochet in the last stitch. Turn your work.
- Row 2: Chain 3, turn, and repeat Row 1 of scalloped edging until the end of the row.
- Fasten off and weave in all ends.
Finishing Touches:
If desired, you can add a belt or tie for a more fitted look. Enjoy your beautiful new capelet!
