Textured Cozy Chunky Slouchy Beanie Free Pattern
Materials:
- Bulky weight yarn (approx. 120-150 yards)
- Size L/8.0 mm crochet hook
- Scissors
- Tapestry needle for weaving in ends
- Measuring tape
Gauge:
8 stitches and 6 rows = 4 inches in textured stitch (Note: Gauge is not critical for this project but may affect yarn usage.)
Size:
Adult size, easily adjustable for different head sizes.
Abbreviations:
- ch = chain
- sc = single crochet
- dc = double crochet
- sl st = slip stitch
- st = stitch
- rep = repeat
Pattern:
Brim:
- Ch 10.
- Row 1: Sc in the second ch from the hook and across (9 sc).
- Row 2: Ch 1, turn. Sc in each st across.
- Repeat Row 2 until the brim measures 10 inches long. Join ends with sl st to form a circle.
Main Body:
- Round 1: Ch 2 (counts as first dc), dc in same st and in each st around (join with sl st).
- Round 2: Ch 2, *fpdc (front post double crochet) in next dc, bpdc (back post double crochet) in next dc; rep from * around (join with sl st).
- Round 3: Ch 2, *dc in next st; rep from * around (join with sl st).
- Round 4: Ch 2, *fpdc in next st, bpdc in next st; rep from * around (join with sl st).
- Repeat Rounds 3 and 4 until the beanie measures approximately 9 inches from the brim. Finish with Round 4.
Decreasing:
- Round 1: Ch 2, *dc in next st, dc2tog (double crochet two together); rep from * around (join with sl st).
- Round 2: Ch 2, *fpdc in next st, bpdc in next st; rep from * around (join with sl st).
- Round 3: Ch 2, *dc2tog; rep from * around (join with sl st).
Finishing:
- Cut the yarn, leaving a long tail. Thread through remaining stitches and pull tight to close.
- Weave in all ends.
- Make a pom pom (optional) and sew onto the top of the beanie.
