Crochet Whimsical Multi-Color Striped Beanie with Pom-Pom Free Pattern

Materials Needed:
- Worsted weight yarn in multiple colors (red, blue, cream)
- Crochet hook (size H/8 - 5.00 mm)
- Scissors
- Yarn needle
- Measuring tape
Gauge:
Each round should measure approximately 4 inches in diameter.
Size:
Fits most children’s heads (age 5-10 years). Circumference: 20 inches.
Stitches Used:
- Chain (ch)
- Slip stitch (sl st)
- Single crochet (sc)
- Double crochet (dc)
Instructions:
Base of Hat:
- Start with a magic ring and ch 2 (counts as first dc).
- Round 1: 11 dc into the ring. Pull the tail to close the ring. (12 dc)
- Round 2: 2 dc in each dc around (24 dc)
- Round 3: *1 dc in next st, 2 dc in next st; repeat from * around (36 dc)
- Round 4: *1 dc in next 2 sts, 2 dc in next st; repeat from * around (48 dc)
- Rounds 5-8: dc in each dc around. Change to color B (blue) in round 6.
Striped Section:
- Round 9: Using color C (cream), *dc in next 3 sts, change to color A (red), dc in next 3 sts; repeat from * around.
- Continue this pattern, alternating colors every 3 dc until the hat measures about 6 inches from the base.
Crown Decrease:
- Round 1: *dc in next 2 sts, dc2tog; repeat from * around (36 dc)
- Round 2: *dc in next st, dc2tog; repeat from * around (24 dc)
- Round 3: dc2tog around (12 dc)
- Fasten off, leaving a long tail. Pull through remaining stitches to close the top of the hat. Weave in all ends.
Pom-Pom:
- Using color A (red), create a pom-pom using a pom-pom maker or your fingers. Secure with yarn.
- Attach pom-pom to the top of the hat.
Finishing:
Weave in any loose ends and your whimsical beanie is ready to wear!
