Crochet Whimsical Textured Nature-Inspired Beanie Free Pattern

Materials:

• Medium-weight yarn (100% acrylic or cotton, approx. 150g)
• US G/6 (4.0mm) crochet hook
• Stitch marker
• Yarn needle

Gauge:

12 dc x 6 rows = 4" x 4" square (adjust hook size if necessary).

Size:

This pattern is designed for toddlers (2-4 years). To adjust, increase/decrease by 5 stitches for larger sizes.

Instructions:

Hat Band:

1. Ch 8.
2. Row 1: Hdc in the 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. (7 hdc)
3. Row 2: Ch 1, turn. Hdc in each st across. Repeat Row 2 until band measures 18”.
4. Join ends with sl st to form a band.

Main Body:

1. Ch 2, and work 12 dc in the first st (the join). (12 dc)
2. Round 1: Place a stitch marker; 2 dc in each st around. (24 dc)
3. Round 2: *1 dc in the next st, 2 dc in the next st; repeat from * around. (36 dc)
4. Round 3: *1 dc in next 2 sts, 2 dc in next st; repeat from * around. (48 dc)
5. Round 4: *1 dc in next 3 sts, 2 dc in next st; repeat from * around. (60 dc)
6. Rounds 5-8: Dc in each st around. (60 dc)
7. Round 9: Start textured pattern: *1 fpdc around the next st, 1 bpdc around the next st; repeat from * around.
8. Repeat Round 9 until beanie measures 7” from the top of the band.

Closing the Hat:

1. Round 10: *Dc2tog around (30 dc)
2. Round 11: Dc2tog around (15 dc)
3. Cut yarn, leaving a long tail. Pull through remaining stitches and tighten.

Pom Pom:

1. Using a pom pom maker, create a pom pom and attach it to the top of the hat.

Finishing:
