Delicate Crochet Lace Edging Pattern

Materials

Gauge

20 stitches and 10 rows = 4 inches in lace pattern (after blocking).

Abbreviations

• ch = chain
• dc = double crochet
• sl st = slip stitch
• sp = space
• rep = repeat

Instructions

1. Foundation Chain: Start by making a foundation chain of 80 stitches (or any multiple of 5, plus 5 for the lace pattern).
2. Row 1: In the 4th chain from the hook, make 1 double crochet.
   Continue to double crochet in each chain across the row. At the end of the row, you should have 78 double crochets. Turn your work.
3. Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as 1st dc), turn. In the same stitch, make 1 dc.
   Skip the next 2 dc, in the next dc make 5 dc (this creates the lace).
   Skip the next 2 dc, *in the next dc make 5 dc.* Repeat from * to * until the last 2 dc. Skip the last 2 dc and make 1 dc in the turning chain of the previous row. Turn your work.
4. Row 3: Ch 3, turn. In the same stitch, make 1 dc.
   Make 1 dc in the next 4 dc (the first dc of the group of 5 from Row 2).
   *In the next 5 dc make 1 dc in each of the 5 dc.* Repeat from * to * until the end of the row. End with 1 dc in the turning chain. Turn your work.
5. Row 4: Repeat Row 2.
6. Row 5: Repeat Row 3.
7. Repeating Rows: Continue repeating Rows 2 and 3 until you reach your desired length, approximately 10 inches for a standard edging, or until you’ve used most of your yarn.
8. Finishing: After your last row, fasten off by cutting the yarn, leaving a long tail. Weave in all ends using a tapestry needle.
