Materials:

• 1 skein of worsted weight yarn
• US size 8 (5.0 mm) circular needles (16-inch)
• US size 8 (5.0 mm) double-pointed needles (for the top)
• Stitch marker
• Tapestry needle

Gauge: 4.5 stitches = 1 inch in pattern

Size: Adult (20” circumference)

Instructions:

Cast on: 80 stitches

Ribbing:

• Row 1: *K2, P2; repeat from * to end.
• Repeat Row 1 for 10 rounds.

Begin Pattern:

• Row 1: K4, *K2, P2; repeat from * to last 4 stitches, K4.
• Row 2: K4, *P2, K2; repeat from * to last 4 stitches, K4.
• Row 3: K4, *K2, P2; repeat from * to last 4 stitches, K4.
• Row 4: K4, *P2, K2; repeat from * to last 4 stitches, K4.
• Row 5: K4, *K2 (twist the stitch), P2; repeat from * to last 4 stitches, K4.

Repeat rows 1-5 until the beanie measures 8 inches from the cast-on edge.

Crown Shaping:

• Begin crown shaping on the next round.
• Row 1: K8, K2tog; repeat to end.
• Row 2: Knit all stitches.
• Row 3: K7, K2tog; repeat to end.
• Row 4: Knit all stitches.
• Row 5: K6, K2tog; repeat to end.
• Row 6: Knit all stitches.
• Row 7: K5, K2tog; repeat to end.
• Row 8: Knit all stitches.
• Row 9: K4, K2tog; repeat to end.
• Row 10: Knit all stitches.
• Row 11: K3, K2tog; repeat to end.
• Row 12: Knit all stitches.
• Row 13: K2, K2tog; repeat to end.
• Row 14: K1, K2tog; repeat to end.
• Row 15: K2tog to end.

Cut yarn, leaving a long tail. Thread a tapestry needle and pull through remaining stitches, cinching closed. Weave in all ends.
