Create an enchanting wall hanging that captures the essence of cascading waterfalls with intricate knotwork and a touch of whimsy. This Mystic Cascade Macrame Wall Hanging is perfect for adding a bohemian touch to your home decor. Follow this easy-to-follow pattern and bring a piece of nature indoors!
Materials Needed
- Cotton Cord: 3mm thickness (20 cords, each 3 meters long)
- Macrame Board: For securing your work while you knot
- T-Pins: To hold the cords in place on the macrame board
- Wooden Dowel: For hanging the finished piece
- Beads: Optional embellishments for added texture
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Cut Your Cords: Measure and cut 20 pieces of cotton cord, each 3 meters long. Make sure your cuts are clean to prevent fraying.
- Attach Cords to Dowel: Take your wooden dowel and use Lark's Head Knots to attach each cord. To do this, fold each cord in half and place the loop over the dowel, pulling the ends through the loop to secure it. Space the cords evenly across the dowel.
- Group the Cords: Divide your attached cords into groups of 4. You will have 5 groups total. This will help you manage your knotting more easily.
- Work Square Knots: For each group of 4 cords, create Square Knots. To make a Square Knot, take the left cord and place it over the center cords, then take the right cord and place it over the left cord. Bring the right cord under the center cords and through the loop created by the left cord. Pull tight. Repeat this process, alternating the starting cord to complete the knot. Leave a 10cm fringe at the bottom of your knots.
- Create Cascading Waves: After completing the Square Knots, you will create a series of alternating Half Hitch Knots. Starting from the leftmost cord of each group, take it and wrap it around the next cord to the right, then pull it through the loop created. Repeat this process, moving right across the group, and then move to the next group. This will create a beautiful cascading wave pattern.
- Add Beads: If you wish to embellish your wall hanging, select a few cords and thread beads onto them. Secure the beads by tying additional knots above and below each bead to keep them in place.
- Trim the Fringe: Once you are satisfied with the length and shape of your wall hanging, trim the fringe at the bottom to your desired length. You can create a straight edge or a more natural, uneven look depending on your preference.
- Attach a Hanging Loop: To finish your wall hanging, create a loop at each end of the dowel using additional cord. Simply tie a knot and secure it tightly. This will allow you to hang your beautiful creation on the wall.
Congratulations! You have successfully created your very own Mystic Cascade Macrame Wall Hanging. Enjoy the beauty and tranquility it brings to your space!
