Summer Breeze Crop Top Pattern
This gorgeous crop top is made using basic stitches and combines multiple shades of blue to create a visually appealing look. The top features a triangular shape that sits comfortably on the shoulders, making it perfect for a light and breezy summer day.
Materials
- Yarn: 100% Cotton yarn in three shades of blue (dark blue, medium blue, light blue) – approximately 200 yards total
- Needles: Size 5 (3.75 mm) knitting needles or size needed to obtain gauge
- Scissors
- Tape measure
- Tapestry needle for weaving in ends
- Stitch marker
Gauge
20 stitches = 4 inches in stockinette stitch.
Abbreviations
- CO = Cast On
- K = Knit
- P = Purl
- St(s) = Stitch(es)
- WS = Wrong Side
- RS = Right Side
- BO = Bind Off
Instructions
Part 1: Back Section
- CO 40 stitches using the dark blue yarn.
- Knit in stockinette stitch (K one row, P one row) for 4 inches.
- Change to medium blue yarn.
- Knit in stockinette stitch for 4 inches.
- Change to light blue yarn.
- Knit in stockinette stitch for 4 inches.
- Begin decreasing for the neckline: (RS) K2, K2tog, K to last 4 stitches, K2tog, K2. (You will have decreased 2 stitches.)
- Repeat the decrease row every 4th row until you have 20 stitches.
- Continue knitting straight until piece measures approximately 12 inches from the cast on edge.
- BO all stitches and set aside.
Part 2: Front Section
- Repeat the same process as the back section, but stop decreasing at 30 stitches instead of 20.
- Continue straight until the piece measures approximately 12 inches from the cast on edge.
- BO all stitches.
Part 3: Assembly
- Lay the front and back sections flat with the right sides facing each other.
- Using a tapestry needle and the same light blue yarn, sew the side seams together from the bottom up to the desired armhole gap (about 4 inches).
- Turn the top inside out so that the seams are on the inside.
Part 4: Straps
- Using the dark blue yarn, CO 20 stitches.
- Knit in garter stitch (K every row) until the strap measures 16 inches.
- BO all stitches.
- Make two straps using the same method.
- Attach each strap to the top corners of the crop top. Sew securely in place.
Finishing
- Weave in all loose yarn ends with the tapestry needle.
- Wash and lightly block your crop top to set the stitches and enhance the shape.
