Introducing the Chamomile Blossom Coaster Set

Transform your tea time with this set of six crocheted coasters, each featuring a dimensional chamomile flower at its center. The soft, earthy palette and layered petals create a tactile, nature-inspired accent for your home. Whether you're an experienced crocheter or a beginner looking for a rewarding project, this pattern is designed to be clear, detailed, and easy to follow. Each coaster is approximately 4.5 inches in diameter, made from thick, soft cotton yarn, and the finished set makes a thoughtful handmade gift or a charming addition to your own table.

Materials Needed

To create this set of six coasters, you will need the following materials:

  • Yarn: Lion Brand 24/7 Cotton (worsted weight; 100% cotton) in the following colors:
    • Cream (MC) – approximately 50 yards total for all six coaster bases
    • Dandelion (CC1) – approximately 15 yards total for all six flower centers
    • Sage (CC2) – approximately 10 yards total for all six outer petals
    • Clay (CC3) – approximately 5 yards total for all six inner petals
  • Hook: US Size G/6 (4.0 mm) crochet hook
  • Other: Stitch marker, tapestry needle, scissors

Gauge: First 3 rounds of coaster base = 2 inches in diameter. Exact gauge is not critical for this project, but consistency will help all coasters match.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Important Notes:

  • Coasters are worked in continuous rounds; do not join unless specified.
  • Use a stitch marker to mark the beginning of each round.
  • Each coaster is made in two parts: the base (worked in MC) and the flower (worked in CC1, CC2, CC3).

Part 1: Coaster Base (Make 6)

With MC (Cream), make a magic ring.

  • Round 1: Ch 1, work 8 sc into ring. Pull ring tight. (8 sc)
  • Round 2: Work 2 sc in each st around. (16 sc)
  • Round 3: *Sc in next st, 2 sc in next st; repeat from * around. (24 sc)
  • Round 4: *Sc in next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st; repeat from * around. (32 sc)
  • Round 5: *Sc in next 3 sts, 2 sc in next st; repeat from * around. (40 sc)
  • Round 6: *Sc in next 4 sts, 2 sc in next st; repeat from * around. (48 sc)
  • Round 7: *Sc in next 5 sts, 2 sc in next st; repeat from * around. (56 sc)
  • Round 8: *Sc in next 6 sts, 2 sc in next st; repeat from * around. (64 sc)
  • Round 9: Sc in each st around. (64 sc)

Fasten off and weave in ends. Repeat for all six coaster bases.

Part 2: Chamomile Flower Center (Make 6)

With CC1 (Dandelion), make a magic ring.

  • Round 1: Ch 1, work 6 sc into ring. Pull ring tight. (6 sc)
  • Round 2: Work 2 sc in each st around. (12 sc)
  • Round 3: *Sc in next st, 2 sc in next st; repeat from * around. (18 sc)
  • Round 4: *Sc in next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st; repeat from * around. (24 sc)

Fasten off CC1. Repeat for all six flowers.

Part 3: Outer Petals (Sage – CC2)

Attach CC2 (Sage) to any sc on Round 4 of the flower center.

  • Round 1 (petals): *Ch 6, skip next st, sl st in next st; repeat from * around. This will create 8 petals total. (8 petals)

Fasten off CC2. Repeat for all six flowers.

Part 4: Inner Petal Layer (Clay – CC3)

Attach CC3 (Clay) to the base of any petal (on Round 3 of the flower center).

  • Round 1 (inner petals): *Ch 4, skip next st on Round 3, sl st in next st; repeat from * around. This will create 8 smaller inner petals. (8 inner petals)

Fasten off CC3. Repeat for all six flowers.

Part 5: Assembly

Center the flower on the coaster base. Using a tapestry needle and MC (Cream), sew the flower securely to the base by stitching through the back of the flower center and the coaster base. Make sure the flower is centered and flat. Weave in all ends.

Part 6: Finishing

Block each coaster lightly by pinning to shape and steaming. Allow to dry completely. This will help the petals lay flat and the coaster to maintain its shape.

Your Chamomile Blossom Coaster Set is now complete! Enjoy your beautiful, textured, botanical table accents.
