Abbreviations

  • CO: cast on
  • k: knit
  • p: purl
  • k2tog: knit two together
  • m1: make one (increase)
  • st(s): stitch(es)
  • rnd: round
  • RS: right side
  • WS: wrong side

Cuff

With smaller needles (US Size 4), CO 36 (40/44) sts. Join to work in the round, being careful not to twist. Work in k2, p2 ribbing for 1.5 inches.

Hand (Right Glove)

Switch to larger needles (US Size 6). Work in stockinette stitch (knit every round) for 1 inch.

Thumb Gusset

Separate Thumb

K to first marker, remove marker, place next 11 (13/15) sts on a stitch holder or waste yarn, remove second marker, CO 1 st over the gap, k to end. You now have 36 (40/44) sts for the hand.

Hand (continued)

Work even in stockinette until hand measures 2.5 (3/3.5) inches from thumb opening, or to the base of your fingers.

Fingers (Right Glove)

Index Finger: K12 (13/14) sts, place remaining 24 (27/30) sts on holder. CO 2 sts over the gap. Work even on these 14 (15/16) sts for 2 (2.25/2.5) inches. Bind off loosely.

Middle Finger: From holder, pick up next 8 (9/10) sts, CO 2 sts over gap, pick up 2 sts from base of index finger, then next 8 (9/10) sts from holder. (20 (22/24) sts). Work even for 2.25 (2.5/2.75) inches. Bind off.

Ring Finger: From holder, pick up next 8 (9/10) sts, CO 2 sts over gap, pick up 2 sts from base of middle finger, then next 8 (9/10) sts from holder. (20 (22/24) sts). Work even for 2 (2.25/2.5) inches. Bind off.

Pinky Finger: From holder, pick up remaining 8 (9/10) sts, pick up 2 sts from base of ring finger. (10 (11/12) sts). Work even for 1.5 (1.75/2) inches. Bind off.

Thumb

Place 11 (13/15) sts from holder onto needles. Pick up 3 sts along the cast-on edge. (14 (16/18) sts). Work even for 1.5 (1.75/2) inches. Bind off.

Left Glove

Work as for right glove, but mirror the thumb gusset placement – place markers after k18 (20/22) sts (i.e., at the beginning of the round instead of the middle).

Ruffle (make 2)

With larger needles (US Size 6), CO 80 (90/100) sts. Do not join – work flat.

Row 1 (RS): k1, *yo, k1; repeat from * to last st, k1. (159 (179/199) sts)

Row 2 (WS): Purl all sts.

Row 3: k1, *k2tog, yo; repeat from * to last 2 sts, k2tog. (158 (178/198) sts)

Row 4: Purl all sts.

Bind off loosely.

Finishing

Sew the cast-on edge of the ruffle to the cast-on edge of the glove cuff, gathering slightly to fit. Weave in all ends. Block gently to shape and enhance the lace effect.
